Beaufort - About halfway through the region 7-AAAA schedule, the Beaufort High softball team is in the thick of the race for the region title.
As of April7, the Eagles were 3-2 against region foes, sitting at 5-7 overall on the season.
Senior Adalyn Johnson has been the most productive player through the first 12 games. Johnson batted a cool .457 with five doubles, seven RBI and 12 runs scored. She also is the top pitcher posting a 2.93 earned run average with 53 strikeouts in 45 innings of work inside the circle.
Junior Caylin Adkins hit .394 with 10 runs scored through 12 games while eighth-grader Aliyah Allen hit .300 at the plate.
Juniors Kyra Raines and Emily Robinson also have been offensive contributors, hitting .286 and .270, respectively. Freshman Hadley Stevens knocked in eight runs in the first 12 games.
Two other seniors on the roster include Alayna Connelly and Ariana Smith. Junior Patricia Washington, sophomore Emily Jezweski and freshman Kara Neuhring round out the roster.
The baseball team also is in contention for a playoff spot and can secure that goal with a good finish to the season. Entering play on April 7, the Eagles were 7-7 overall and 4-2 in region 7-AAAA.
One of the top leaders this spring is senior catcher Hudson Mullen, who coach Mullen feels is among the best catchers, as well as pitchers, in the state this spring.
Senior Gunner Hollingsworth is one of the consistent arms on the mound and can fill a variety of defensive positions. He starts at third defensively.
Senior Will Herron plays second base and should be on the leading hitters. Mullen says he also has become a more vocal leader this spring.
Senior Reece Mullen has developed well over the years and plays in leftfield and on the mound. He also is a big team leader. He is hitting .441 with nine RBI through 14 games.
Senior Carter Womack is another key arm on the mound and will be a designated hitter. Mullen calls Womack “very competitive who hates to lose.”
Senior Dylan Rast is the shortstop who also will pitch. He is one of the best base runners with good speed.
Another senior starter is outfielder Samari Bonds.
Junior Jayden Davis will be among the top pitchers. Junior Sellers Lynn is working at first base and junior Tanner Altman patrols centerfield.
