Timberland track and field athletes on the move

ST. STEPHEN – Timberland High School track and field athletes have proven to be ready for the home stretch of the season, which concludes in May.
The Wolves competed in the Berkeley County School District championships in late March at Cane Bay High School. They had quite a few athletes end up on the three-person awards podium.
For the Timberland girls, thrower Samyah Faison led the way by winning the javelin (25.96 m). Faison also placed fifth in the shot put. Another notable performance for the Lady Wolves came from hurdler Jermanee Washington, who finished fourth.
Sprinter Jordan Gorham highlighted the boys’ performances at county by finishing first in the 400-meter dash (49.94). Gorham also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash. Jumper Carter Hawkins had a standout day, too. He was runner-up in the triple jump and third in the long jump.
Hurdler Malachi Milligan chipped in a third place in the 110-meter hurdles. Two Timberland relays, the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400, ended up third.
Kevin Snowden (1600), Malyk Goodman (110 hurdles), Day’vian Bennett (400 hurdles) and Kaseam Liferidge (discus) recorded fifth-place finishes.
During a home meet April 2, the following won events for the Wolves against Berkeley, Cross and Cane Bay: Tyl’asia Stone (girls 100), Washington (girls 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles), the girls 4 x 100, the girls 4 x 400, Faison (girls javelin), Hawkins (boys 400), Snowden (boys 1600), Milligan (110 h), Bennett (400 h), boys 4 x 100 and Eric Johnson (javelin).
In the annual Iron Horse Stampede April 4 at Philip Simmons, Gorham won the 400-meter dash and Hawkins finished first in the triple jump. Goodman (110 h) and the boys 4 x 100 relay placed second. Washington led the Timberland girls with a third in the 400 hurdles.
Coming up, the Wolves will compete in the Region 6-2A championship at Woodland April 30. The Class 2A State championship meet is set for May 16 at Spring Valley High School in Columbia.
