Owen Meyers Region Defensive Player of  the Year

Sumter – The Wilson Hall football team saw its season come to an end with a 28-24 loss to

Pinewood Prep in the SCISA AAA state championship game. It was the second straight year the Barons

played for the AAA title, falling to Hilton Head Christian Academy in 2023.

While unable to bring a championship trophy home, WH head coach Adam Jarecki said the

Class of 2025 has been a very successful one.

“This group has accomplished a lot over the last three years,” Jarecki said. “They won seven

games two years ago and reached the semifinals, won 10 games last year and played for the title and won

11-games this season and played in the title game. This group has also been successful in other sports, so

this is a special group.”

The senior class, which has gone 28-9 the last three years, has 11 members in Owen Meyers,

Thomas Creech, Shawn Michael Matthews, Akshar Patel, Knox Buxton, Jackson Bonser, Andrew

Segars, Adam Baker, Cooper Scott, Parker McLeod and Carson Wilsey.

Wilson Hall had nine players named to the All-Region 2-AAA team. Leading the way was

and an interception. Meyers was also the starting quarterback, completing 63 of 111 passes for 1,009

yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 218 yards and six TDs on 66 carries.

The other seniors selected All-Region were Scott, Wilsey and Bonser. Scott and Wilsey were

selected as offensive linemen, Scott starting at center and Wilsey at left tackle. On the defensive front,

Wilsey had 52 tackles and three sacks while Scott had 25 tackles and one sack.

Bonser was named to the team as a placekicker, and he had a tremendous season. Bonser hit on

34 of 37 extra point attempts and was 7 of 8 on field goal attempts with a long of 48 yards. Bonser also

started in the secondary and had 50 tackles and an interception.

The other All-Region choices were juniors Milling Galloway, Ford Wilder, Walker WilsonBen

McLaurin and Harris Naylor.

eight TDs. As a defensive back, Galloway had 38 tackles, four TFLs and an interception. Wilder was

selected at wide receiver and had a team high 27 catches for 518 yards and five TDs.

slot. McLaurin had 38 tackles, two interceptions and two TFLs as a linebacker selection while rushing for

511 yards and six TDs on 106 carries and catching seven passes for 80 yards and two more TDs.

Photos from the SCISA Class AAAA Boys State Championship Game between Porter-Gaud and First Augusta Christian. These two teams were the best possible match up for the Championship title game. After trading leads for all of the first half, Augusta Christian establish dominance in the second half with a ten point lead at one point. In never say die fashion, Porter-Gaud did not give up bringing the game back a tie half way through the fourth quarter. The last four minutes were trading the lead right up to the final 6 seconds of the game. Both of these teams played their hearts out, but only one could win. No one can say that Augusta Christian didn't play to win and they played like champions. Porter Gaud ended up winning in the last 6 seconds with a go ahead basket to take a 66 to 65 lead. But, a turnover by Augusta Christian and foul sent Porter Gaud back to the stripe and they won 68 to 65. Follow this link to all images from Championship Friday!
