Denmark – The Denmark-Olar Vikings return a veteran squad that went undefeated in region play (6-0) and played into the second round of the class A playoffs last season so as they entered the 2024 season expectations are high for the defending region 4A champions.
Vikings Head Coach William Raysor says they have gotten off to a solid start at 3-2 with their two losses coming against larger schools. Their three wins have come in region play and have run their region win streak to nine in a row. They have outscored their region competition 29-1.
Denmark-Olar has four players that have scored over nine points on the year led by senior forward/ striker Treveon Hinton. After averaging 12.5 points per game during basketball season he has scored a team high twenty-nine points. He leads the team in goals scored with nine and he is second in assists with six.
Junior striker/ sweeper Robert Bovain is the team leader in assists with seven and he is second in goals scored with six for a total of 19 points on the season. He also was a standout on the basketball court averaging a double/ double (10pts/10rbs) and was all region in football.
Trae Summers a junior forward/ mid fielder has found the back of the net five times this season for a total of ten points.
Another All-Region football player senior Shamarion Palmer has scored nine points on three goals and three assists. He plays forward on the pitch for the Vikings.
Juniors Tykeem Ross (F/M), Terence Hinton (F/ST), Erin Williams (F) and Amari Keller (MF) make up the rest of the attacking unit for the Vikings. Keller has scored two goals on the year.
Ross and Hinton are two of the top junior football prospects for the class of 2025 per the High School Sports Report.
On the defensive side of the pitch junior goalkeeper Reginald Youmans has been solid in net as he has 71 saves on the year. In region play he allows less than a goal a match. He is another All-Region football player, taking his talents to the pitch.
Youman’s has some talent in front of him in seniors Jamarion Wise (D/GK), Evan Carr (FB), Kenneth Hanberry, Makion Culbreath and juniors Jermaine Walker (D/GK), Gregory Davis, Charleston Brown and Carlos Johnson.
The Vikings will take a break for spring break. They will be back in action on April 8th when they travel to Blackville-Hilda.
