The semifinals and championship games for the South Carolina High School League boys and girls basketball state playoffs will all be played at Florence Center again next year.
The SCHSL executive committee approved keeping all of the games in Florence for a second straight year by a 10-3 vote on Wednesday. The agreement is just for one season.
In total, 30 games involving all five classifications were played at Florence Center over a 7-day period in late February and early March. With AAAAA crowning two champions next year, that means 36 games will be played in Florence.
Prior to last season, the upper state championship games were played in Greenville, while the lower state championship games were played in Florence. The state championship games were played in Aiken the past few years.
Florence Center will also be the venue for the wrestling individual state tournament. It has been held the past several years at Anderson Civic Center.
The football state championship games will be played in Orangeburg for a second straight year at South Carolina State University’s Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
