MONCKS CORNER – If St. John’s Christian running back Dor Reichley woke up with a sore back Saturday morning, it’s because the junior standout loaded up his squad and carried the Cavaliers across the finish line in their 28-27 road victory at Dillon Christian Friday, Oct. 4, in a SCISA clash.
Reichley toted the rock 19 times for 209 yards and scored four touchdowns on the ground for the Cavaliers, including one from 89 yards out. Behind Reichley, the Cavaliers overcame a 14-point halftime deficit to edge Dillon Christian. Kicker Jacob Glover was successful on all four extra points after Reichley’s scores. His boot with just over five minutes left in the game proved to be the difference for the Shaun Welch-coached bunch.
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in SCISA Region 1-2A, snapping a two-game skid.
Also starring for St. John’s Christian was receiver Thomas Hester, a senior. Hester grabbed five passes for 105 yards, with a long of 40 yards. Senior quarterback Landen Chipman passed for 79 yards and receiver Lucas Morrison connected with Hester on a 35-yard pass. He also hauled in three passes.
On the other side of the line of scrimmage, senior linebacker Sumter Moorer led the way with 10 total tackles, while sophomore defensive lineman Xander Artagame and junior linebacker Caleb Ware contributed 9 and 8 tackles, respectively. Hester and Morrison also pulled down interceptions.
The Cavaliers continue the region slate with a home game against winless Christian Academy Oct. 11, and host Hilton Head Prep Oct. 18 before traveling to Bethesda Academy Nov. 1 to cap the regular season.
Reichley should cross the 1,000-yard mark soon. He enters the Christian Academy game with 919 yards on the ground with nine touchdowns. Hester leads the Cavaliers receivers on the season with 32 grabs for 444 yards and four scores. Reichley and Morrison are the next top targets.
Chipman and Moorer pace the defensive unit in stops with 59 and 48, respectively. Senior Rowdy Langdon has 32 tackles.
