Daniel girls track and field team finishes second in AAA state meet

Lizah Williams, Ashby Williams, 2 relay teams win titles

           Central – The Daniel High School girls track and field team just missed out on winning the AAA state title, losing to Region 1 foe Seneca. The Lions finished with 85 points, six behind Seneca.

 

           Daniel had four state champions, two individual and two relay teams, crowned in the meet held at Lower Richland High in Hopkins on May 17. Lizah Williams won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5 minutes, 13.08 seconds. Ashby Williams claimed the 3,200 run with a time 11:37.11.

 

           Ashby Williams finished third in the 1,600 while Lizah Willaims finished fourth in the 3,200. Hunter Vye Fraser also scored points in the 3,200 with an eighth-place finish.

 

           Daniel’s 4x400-meter relay team won with a time of 4:03.89, while the 4x800 team won in 9:36.07. The 4x400 team included Jaden Fleming, Caroline Schell, Madison Stowers, Colleen DiMaio, Naomi Myers, Harper Reynolds, Eva Ballato and Paige Miller. The 4x800 team consisted of Ashby Williams, Lizah Williams, Hannah Brown, Lilly Tidwell, Fraser, Reynolds, Caitlin Ashcraft and Ballato.

 

           The Lions had three athletes score points in the triple jump. DiMaio was fourth, Chamberlin Streeter was sixth and Emma Worley was seventh. Tidwell finished fourth in the 800 run while Brown was fifth.

 

           Fleming finished fourth in the 400 dash while Schell was seventh. Siena McIntyre finished seventh in the 200 dash

 

          The 4x100 relay team that included Schell, Stowers, Kenlee Richardson, McIntyre, Myers, Fleming, Allie Hendricks and Piper Hitch finished fourth.

 

           Others who qualified for state were Myers in the 200, Fraser in the 1,600, Worley in both the 100-meter hurdles and the pole vault and Miller in the 400 hurdles,

           

           BOYS TRACK TEAM FINISHES TIED FOR 15TH

 

           The Daniel boys finished in a tie for 15th with Darlington with 16 points. The Lions placed In four different events.

 

           Hayden Anderson had the best finish, taking fourth in the high jump. Erik Lipsey was fifth in the long jump, while Christian Chancellor was fifth in the triple jump.

 

           The 4x8 relay team consisting of Sam Proffitt, Jacob Buck, Jackson Lee-Sosolik, Carson Rowe, Noah King, James Taylor, Bryce Emerson and Finn Chandler finished sixth.

 

           Others who qualified for state were Taylor in the 400, Lee-Sosolik in the 800, Buck in the 1,600, Proffitt in the 3,200, Tayshun Reid in the 400 hurdles, Chancellor in the long jump, Jaedyn Young in the shot put and the 4x1 relay team that included Joseph Parker, Elijah Lipsey, Tyrus Kosch, Erik Lipsey, Trevor Dilworth and Preston Bivens.
