Lake View’s Kaleigh Blackmon Named The NETC Female Student Athlete of the Month
Lake View—Kaleigh Blackmon is a junior at Lake View High School where she is a devoted softball player, who helped Lake View earn a spot in the Class A state softball finals this past May.
As a sophomore, Blackmon started at third base, batted .344 with four RBI’s including scoring 16 runs while stealing 14 bases. She has been a key player on the softball team at Lake View since the 7th grade. She first began playing softball, at the tee-ball level, many years ago.
In the class room Blackmon is maintaining a 4.2 GPA.
For all her athletic and academic accomplishments, Blackmon has been chosen the December “NETC Female Student Athlete of the Month.”
This honor is bestowed through a partnership between the Northeastern Technical College and “The High School Sports Report” with the publication communicating with athletic directors at high schools in the counties of Dillon, Marlboro, and Chesterfield, where NETC serves the needs of high school students seeking to earn dual credits in various subjects that can be transferred to colleges after a student’s high school graduation.
Entering the second semester of her junior year, Blackmon’s GPA has been benefitted greatly by her taking advantage of the dual credit online courses offered through the “NETC.” To date, in her high school academic experience, Blackmon has taken six dual credit online courses offered by the “NETC.”
They include English 101, Music Appreciation, Algebra Interim, Biology 101, Theatre, and Finance Literary.
“Taking the English online course has really prepared me to get ready to take the ACT later this year,” said Blackmon. “This online English course was a preview for the ACT.
“Taking these online dual credit courses through the “NETC” not only helped me improve my GPA, and class standing, but I am now better qualified to apply for numerous academic scholarships also.”
Blackmon hopes to major in the academic area that will help her become a dental hygienist after graduation form college. “My cousin is a dental hygienist and she has also always encouraged me to get involved in the field of dentistry.”
After high school Blackmon is hoping to pursue her future academic goals either at Coastal Carolina, or the University of South Carolina.
Among her goals in the sport of softball, Blackmon is looking forward to becoming a senior captain on her team next after her junior season. ”We graduated a lot of players from our team after last season so I am looking forward to becoming a role model and supporter for all the younger players we will have on the softball team this Spring,” she said. “I also hope to improve my batting average.”
This past season, Blackmon had a “Sophomore Moment” she will always remember. “I became a switch hitter for the first time when we were playing Bamberg-Ehrhardt in the play-offs,” she said. “It was in the fourth inning and we had two runners on base and I decided to bat left-handed for the first time in a game. I got a single and brought in both runs with my hit and we ended up winning the game. I was so excited to help my team win the game.”
