Four teams have clinched berths in their respective South Carolina High School League baseball state championship series.
Lexington is the Upper state champion in AAAAA, Laurens is the AAAA upper state champion, Hanahan is the AAA lower state champion and Southside Christian School is the Class upper state champion.
Here’s a look at how things stand in each of the five classifications.
AAAAA
Lexington beat Dorman 5-2 on Wednesday to go undefeated in winning the upper state tournament. The Wildcats will meet either Ashley Ridge or Summerville in the best-of-3 state championship series scheduled to begin on Saturday.
Ashley Ridge beat Summerville 5-4 on Wednesday to force a deciding game in the lower state tournament. The teams play on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Summerville
The state championship series is scheduled to begin on Saturday at Lexington. Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday at the lower state champion with a third game, if needed, on Saturday, May 25, at a neutral site.
AAAA
Laurens advanced to the state championship series by sweeping the best-of-3 upper state title series against Easley. Laurens won both games by one run, 3-2 and 7-6
Laurens will face either James island or North Myrtle Beach in the championship series. NMB won the first game of the lower state series 7-1 before James Island won the second game 13-2.
The deciding game is scheduled for Friday at North Myrtle Beach beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The state championship series is scheduled to begin on Monday with Laurens visiting the lower state winner. Laurens will host Game 2 on Wednesday with the if game scheduled for Friday at a neutral site.
AAA
Hanahan clinched a berth in the state championship series with an 8-2 win over Camden on Wednesday as it won the lower state tournament in undefeated fashion.
The Hawks will face either Powdersville or Blue Ridge for the state title. Those two are scheduled to play for the upper state crown on Friday in Powdersville beginning at 5 p.m.
Powdersville is the undefeated team. Blue Ridge advanced to the championship round with a 2-1 win over Daniel in an elimination game on Wednesday.
Hanahan will play host to the first game of the state championship series with the second game to be played at the upper state champion.
` AA
Mid-Carolina will play host to Strom Thurmond at 6 p.m. at Lindy Richardson Stadium on Thursday with a chance to win the upper state tournament.
The lower state tournament is one game behind. Buford will play host to Andrew Jackson in an elimination game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with the winner facing undefeated Oceanside Collegiate Academy in the championship round.
The first game of the state championship series will be played at the lower state champion with the second game to be played at the upper state champion.
CLASS A
Defending state champion Southside Christian School clinched its spot in the state championship series by beating Christ Church 10-0 on Wednesday to win the upper state tournament.
In the lower state tournament, Latta beat Lake View on Wednesday to force a deciding game. That game will be played on Thursday at Lake View beginning at 6 p.m.
The state championship series is scheduled to begin on Saturday with SCS visiting the lower state winner. The Sabres will host the second game on Tuesday.
