Summerville – Though there were no region championships this spring, the sports season at Cane Bay High overall was a solid effort.
There was plenty of AAAAA Lower State playoff participation by Cane Bay spring teams.
The baseball program had one of their best seasons, top to bottom, in recent history. All three levels produced at least a .500 record for the regular season, including a 16-5 season for the junior varsity.
The varsity team went 14-11 in regular season games and was a part of the state playoffs. The Cobras went 1-2 in the postseason, picking up a win over Conway but losing two close games to St. James.
Senior outfielder Cam Williams and senior third baseman Cam Avery earned all-region honors. Williams, headed to Francis Marion, led the Cobras in batting average, hits, runs and stolen bases. He was the only player to hit over .400 this season.
Avery batted over .320 and is headed to play football at Coastal Carolina as a linebacker. Senior Jackson Brindle was the top pitcher for the Cobras this spring. Other solid performances offensively were turned in by catcher Antonio Rivera and shortstop Julian Minus.
All-region selections in girls soccer included Claire Orth, McKenna Igoe and Jamie Hancock. Coach Taylor Hilman was voted region 6-AAAA Coach of the Year. The Cobras finished second in region six.
Earning all-region in boys soccer were Peyton Shoemaker and Lawton Thorn.
In boys tennis, all-region picks were Colin McCoy and Johnathan McGuigan. IN softball, all-region performers were Jenna Krol and Olivia Fleming.
Jeff Babin was voted region six boys golf coach of the year while Max Devito earned all-region honors.
Alaina Nettles was all-region in girls track as the region champion in the triple jump.
Speaking of track, a handful of athletes produced top five finishes in their respective events at the region 6-AAAAAA meet in early May.
Nettles added a second-place finish in the long jump. Sutton Orth finished fifth in the 1600 meter run for the girls team. Amelia Santos was fourth in the 3200 meter run and Alisa Haase finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles.
Cierra Casebier finished second in the pole vault.
On the boys team, Brycen Anderson was fourth in the 200 meter dash, while Emmanuel Epsinal finished fifth in the 400 meter run.
Gianni Martino was fifth in the 800 meter run and Jarrett Hobson was fourth in the long jump. Jayden Anderson took second in the 400 meter hurdles and ran third in the 110 hurdles.
