Bamberg – Despite a winning record overall, the 2023 baseball season ended in playoff disappointment for the Bamberg-Ehrhardt Raiders.
The season was an overall success with a second-place finish in the region standings and several good victories, including a pair over rival Barnwell.
However, in the end, the playoff run came down to a pair of two-rim losses to Green Sea Floyds in the district tournament. In between those losses was a playoff win over Palmetto Scholars Academy.
Coach Gene Schwarting says senior leadership was strong on this spring’s team and those seniors will be missed. Senior Aden Bunch played third base and was among the team’s leading hitters this season. Senior Gage Boykin was a leader in centerfield and also rated as one of the top hitters.
Senior Tanner Brewer was the starting catcher and senior Trot Sutton started at first base. Aiding in the pitching effort were seniors Chandler Brown and Logan Wolfe.
Junior Colin Wolfe and sophomore shortstop Weston Stokes will be the top returning players next spring. Sophomore Dakota Black and freshman Brent Amaker saw significant playing time as well this season.
