Dillon – Having lost most of its firepower from a team that went 19-8 a year, ago, Dillion Christian School boys basketball head coach Bo Stone admits he had concerns coming into this season.
“With only two returning players from last year’s rotation, we were not sure how we would be this year,” said Stone.
He need not have worried.
“Thanks to our dynamic guard play, we are really playing good basketball at this point,” Stone said. “We continue to gel and play better each week.”
Those two players, Jackson Outlar and Thompson Stone, have added over 10 points to each of their scoring averages, and newcomer Sean Locklear was averaging almost 15 points a game. They had the Warriors out to a 9-8 overall start, but more importantly a 4-0 start in SCISA Region 3-AA.
Outlar, a junior who averaged 7.0 points per game last season, was averaging 20.1 points and 7.6 rebounds to lead DCS. Stone, the coach’s son and also a junior, was scoring at a 17.4 clip after averaging 6.5 points last season. He also had team highs in assists at 4.8 and steals at 4.1.
Locklear, a sophomore, was averaging 14.9 points, 2.5 steals and 2.3 assists.
The starting forwards are sophomore Reese Bracey and senior Cale Macpherson. Bracey was averaging 6.3 points and 2.5 steals, while Macpherson was averaging 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 points.
The top player off the bench is sophomore center Braxton Cummings. He was averaging 3.6 points and 4.4 rebounds.
Coach Stone said the Warriors need to continue to improve in all facets of the game.
“As we move toward the playoffs, we need to continue to show patience offensively while playing aggressively on defense,” he said. “When we share the ball, we are capable of playing with anyone.”
DILLON CHRISTIAN LIKELY TO MOVE UP IN CLASSIFICATION
If the realignment proposal made by SCISA holds true, Dillon Christian will be moving up to AA for football and AAA for all other sports for the next two school years.
DCS, which played at Class A in football in the most recent realignment, would be a part of an 11-school AA football class. The others would be Calhoun Academy, Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach, Clarendon Hall, Greenwood Christian, Hilton Head Prep, Orangeburg Preparatory School, Pee Dee Academy, St. John’s Christian, Spartanburg Christian Academy and Thomas Sumter Academy.
After playing at AA in non-football sports, DCS would be part of a 16-school AAA. The others would be Calhoun Academy, Christian Academy, Clarendon Hall, Colleton Prep, Shannon Forest, Greenwood Christian, Florence Christian School, Orangeburg Prep, Patrick Henry, Pee Dee, St. John’s Christian, Spartanburg Christian, Spartanburg Day School, Thomas Sumter and Williamsburg Academy.
