Hilton Head – Peaking at the right time is the goal of every championship contender and the Hilton Head Prep girls soccer team did just that.
The Dolphins closed out the 2023 season on a six-game winning streak, which included an impressive 6-0 win over Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach in the SCISA Class AAA state championship contest.
Hilton Head Prep finished with a 14-4 record overall and out-scored three playoff opponents, 24-2.
“When these girls walked on the field our first day I knew we had a lot of soccer players, but they didn’t know how to play together,” coach Risa McMillan said to Roger Lee of the HSSR. “How they played today is due to all their hard work.”
Sophomore Cailah Dando has been Prep’s major scoring threat all season and responded with three goals in the championship game. She finished her season with 25 goals and 16 assists.
Eighth-grader Ashley Brothers added two goals in the finals to finish with 22 goals and 14 assists for the season. Senior Bryn Miller added a goal in the finals and finished with 14 goals and 16 assists in her final prep campaign.
Anchoring a strong defensive effort was junior keeper Emily Brothers, who recorded more than 50 saves this season.
Sophomore Courtney Campbell, known more for her all-state exploits in basketball, scored nine goals this season.
The three remaining seniors on the roster are Alexis Terry, Cat Zamora and Hailie Klinger. Kylie Foley is the lone junior on the team. Other sophomores are Lauren Booth, Oona Ehlers and Sophia Hartounian.
Rounding out the 2023 roster are freshmen Sophia Schlieman, Mabry Sutton, Samantha Rehling, and Madeline Schlieman.
Boys tennis continues dominance with 9th title in 10 years
The 2023 boys tennis team capped off a 16-0 season with a 5-1 win over Spartanburg Day in the SCISA Class AAA state championship. It was Prep’s ninth state title in the last 10 years and gives Hilton Prep six state titles in all sports this year.
Posting singles wins in the finals were Booby Bart, Drew Rukavina, Louis Hein, Evan Phillips and Wyatt Harmer.
Boys golf takes second at state tournament
Hilton Head Prep’s boys golf team came up two strokes short of winning the SCISA state golf tournament in Conway. The Dolphins finished two shots behind state champion Hilton Head Christian.
Hilton Head Prep’s top four scorers all shot under 150 for the 36-hole event. Jack Crosoure finished the tournament at 144 while Jeep Patrick shot 145. Tag Graziano shot 147 and Cade Kriscunas posted a two-day score of 149.
