CAVALIERS RETURN TO SCISA 11-MAN OFF TO 4-0 START

Goose Creek, S.C.-The St. Johns Christian Academy Cavaliers have returned to SCISA 11-Man football after several years in the 8-Man ranks.  The Cavaliers coached by Brandon Clontz are off to a 4-0 start and will battle with Thomas Heyward in Region 1-A for the region title.

“We are a very athletic team with a good mix of skill and size,” said Coach Clontz.  “We have a lot of experience and leadership from the upper classmen.  Most players will play both ways as we lack depth.”

The Cavalier offense will be led by Nai’ryan Bookert (sr) from the quarterback slot.  The running backs are Bryce Taylor (jr) and Malik Waheed (sr).  Wide Receivers are CoreyMoreau, Hayden Redders (so) and Nick Jimenez (sr).  The Tight End is Easton Morris (jr)

The tackles are Kasey Bostick (jr) and Gus Hutson (so).  The Guards are Ethan Ayers (jr) and Drayton Dupree (fr).  The Center is Logan Forester (jr).  The Place Kicker is Matt Glover (jr).

The Cavaliers have wins over Beaufort Academy (28-18), Dillon Christian (35-26), Christian Academy (27-6) and Bethesda (26-20).

Coach Nic Shuford at Thomas Heyward Academy hopes to keep his Rebels in the fight for the region title.  The Rebels own victories over Dorchester (39-14), Trinity Collegiate (30-14) and Hilton Head Prep (34-0).  The Rebels dropped the season opener to First Baptist (26-47).

The Rebel rushing game has been led by Jr Patterson (sr) with 290 yards on 36 carries for 1 touchdown.  Bruzza Pusha (sr) has rushed for 177 yards on 16 carries for 2 touchdowns.  Brandon Howard (jr) has added 116 yards on 11 carries for 1 touchdown.

Senior quarterback P. Bennett has completed 33 of 65 passes for 505 yards for 4 touchdowns.  Pusha has been the top receiver with 363 yards on 19 receptions for 4 touchdowns.

Howard leads the defense with 23 tackles and 1 sack.  Cody Parker (jr) follows with 19 tackles and 2 interceptions.  John Hewlett (sr) has 18 tackles and 3 sacks.  Sonny Halker has recorded 15.  Carter Zareva (so) has 14 tackles followed by Jeremy Clemmer (sr) and B. Smith (jr) with 13 each.

The Greenwood Christian School Hawks coached by Jolly Doolittle have wins over Calhoun Academy (28-6) and Spartanburg Christian (41-13).  Their loss was to the Augusta Christian Lions (14-51).

The Hawks running game has been led by C. Mack (jr) with 327 yards on 31 carries for 5 touchdowns.  Miles Fulghum (jr) has added 73 yards on 15 carries for 1 touchdown.  Other rushing touchdowns have been scored by Peyton Moore (jr) and Ethan Connor (jr).

Moore from the quarterback slot has completed 14 of 20 passes for 265 yards for 1 touchdown.   Connor has been his top receiver with 147 yards on 8 receptions.  Grant Chandler (jr) has 86 yards on 3 receptions.

Connor leads the defense with 22 tackles followed by Jackson Califano (so), Andrew Price (jr) and Nate Rooney (so) with 18 each.

The Hawks defense has recorded six quarterback sacks by Califano, Price, C. Goff (fr), Garrett Doolittle (jr), David White (so) and Dom Cole (jr).

The Hawks have recorded 4 pass interceptions.   Rooney has 2 and Robert Woodard (fr) and Mack have 1 each.

The Dorchester Academy Raiders are still in contention for a playoff slot.  Quarterback Brody Marchant (sr) has completed 21 of 26 passes for 264 yards with 4 touchdowns.

Haden Hartzog (jr) leads in receptions with 88 yards on 7 catches for 1 touchdown.  Hunter Hartzog (jr) has 9 catches for 81 yards.  Benjamin Marchant (so) has 3 catches for 78 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Noah Byron (jr) and Connor Hartzog have 15 tackles each to lead the defense.

Coach Christian Wolfe has his Dillon Christian School Warriors (3-1) ready to claim another Region 2-A title if they can get by the Robert E. Lee Academy Cavaliers (3-1). 

The Warriors own wins over Florence Christian (47-27), Thomas Sumter (47-0) and Calhoun Academy (40-6).  Their loss was to St. Johns Christian School (26-35).

Much of the Warrior offensive punch has come from quarterback Cameron Sweat (jr) and Derrick Baker (so).   Sweat has completed 27 of 51 passes for 475 yards with 7 touchdowns.  He also has rushed for 87 yards on 26 carries with 2 touchdowns.  Baker has rushed for 251 yards on 43 carries with 3 touchdowns.

Adam Norman (sr) is the top receiver with 8 receptions for 246 yards with 4 touchdowns.  Hayden Hickman (jr) has 17 receptions for 187 yards with 2  touchdowns.

Cooper Lane (sr) leads the Warrior defense with 31 tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception.  C. Boykin (sr) has 19 tackles and 1 sack.  C. Thorndyke (jr) has 19 tackles. Gabe Bissell (sr) has 16 tackles and 1 sack.  K. Pulley (jr) has 17 tackles and 1 sack.

The Robert E. Lee Cavaliers are off to a 3-1 start.  They own wins over Williamsburg (20-12), Calhoun Academy (46-22) and Florence Christian (35-19).  Their loss came against Wilson Hall (6-40). 

The Thomas Sumter Generals are still in contention for the post-season even with their 1-2 record.   Ayden Allen (jr) is the rushing leader with 202 yards on 42 carries with a touchdown.  Ethan Lisenby (sr) has rushed for 55 yards.

The defensive leaders have been Javion Lammie (fr), Preston Houser (sr), Lisenby, Hayden Poston (jr), Layton Kennison (8th) and Jacob Crowe (jr).
