From Staff Reports

Moncks Corner—Jordan Burch (6-5, 295) of Hammond announced once again for South Carolina and his scholarshipaper work has been received by USC making him an offical Gamecock signee. Virginia Tech has come into the Palmetto State and signed Dallan Wright of Saluda. Wright  (6-2, 170) will be honored as the HSSR-SCHSL AA Offensive Player of the Year on Feb., 16th at Seawells in Columbia. Wright became the state's 56th player to sign a major college football scholarship on national Signing Day, a new state record from any one class in South Carolian prep football history.

Northwestern wide receiver Ger-Cari Caldwell (6-4, 190) did sign with South Carolina as expected becoming the Gamecocks 8th signee from the state of South Carolina assuming Burch’s paperwork gets in at USC. “I enjoyed the whole process and I stuck with the process and on my visits to South Carolina I just loved the players and the coaches,” said Caldwell at his signing.

South Carolina’s three major football programs signed 13 in-state players led by USC with 8, Coastal Carolina with three and Clemson signed two. All total, nearly 60 in state players from South Carolina have signed with one of the 131 major college programs. The HSSR will list most of them here along with their HSSR ranking. The HSSR forecasts two years ago that the 2020 Class would be best in the state, numbers wise in state history and that is what has happened.

Last year in the NFL draft five former prep football players from South Carolina were taken among the top 262 players. They were 1. Deebo Samuel-(36th) Chapman-USC-49’ers 2. JJ Arcega-Whiteside-(57) Dorman-Stanford-Eagles 3. Christian Miller-(115) Spring Valley-Alabama-Panthers 4. Hunter Renfrow (149) Socastee, Clemson-Raiders 5.
