From Staff Reports

Moncks Corner—The HSSR 33rd annual all-state football team will be released Saturday morning (Jan.-11th) at hssr.com while all other all-state fall sports teams will be released on Monday.

The HSSR has reserved the banquet hall once again at Seawells in Columbia for Sunday February 16th. The non-football banquet is at 1 p.m. while the football banquet will begin around 4 p.m. Last year over 1,200 honorees and their guests attended the two banquets considered among the largest all-state events in the nation dating back to 1987.

The HSSR-SCHSL-SCISA fall all-state teams are typically released around the first of the year but HSSR Publisher Billy G. Baker took two weeks off over the Holidays to visit with his daughter Ally (husband Trent Killian) and newly arrived six- month old granddaughter “Skylah” visiting from Malaysia. The couple has also blessed Baker with a three- year old granddaughter named Gracyn. Baker also had relatives in from Tampa, Florida and he enjoyed 16 straight days of out-of-town guests over the holidays.  Baker also enjoyed hiking a mountain to visit Angel Falls near Gatlinburg, Tennessee over the holidays.

“This was the first real vacation I have had since 2015 and it came at the end of another long and involved football season that began with our annual football media day at USC back in July,” said Baker. “Between the football playoffs starting in early November, producing and marketing championship programs for all 18 SCHSL & SCISA teams competing for state football titles, and then printing a 72-page football/fall sports wrap up issue in mid-December, I welcomed the opportunity to spend some quality time with my family I can promise you. I am now also focused on getting the upcoming banquet organized and implemented as well as getting our annual basketball issue to press on Friday, January 24th.

When honorees see their names on any of the all-state teams released at hssr.com over the next three days please send your home address to receive your official banquet invitation to hsreport@aol.com.

While the football all-state team is closed for nominations, coaches in volleyball and girl’s tennis are urged to send any nominations directly to hsreport@aol.com by this Sunday 3 p.m. The HSSR will choose all-state teams in cross country and swimming based strictly off times posted with no need for nominations.
