Dorchester Academy end’s Faith Christian’s seven game winning streak with a 44-42 victory

St. George – Trailing 42-33 entering the fourth quarter the Dorchester Academy Raiders needed to step up their defensive effort after allowing Faith Christian to score 17 third quarter points if they were going to get back in the ball game.

The Raiders answered the bell as they held the Knight’s scoreless in fourth quarter, outscoring them 11-0 to grab a 44-42 win. The win improved their record to 6-4 on the year. The Knights saw their seven game winning streak come to an end as their record dropped to 7-5.

“We were a little lucky tonight,” said Raider Head Coach Buddy Hartzog. “Except for the third quarter we played good defense all night and that kept us in the game.”

The first half was back and forth with neither team establishing control and the half ended at 25 apiece.

The third quarter saw Faith Christian senior guard Daniel Brown (9 points) take control scoring 9 points in the quarter as his team moved out to the 9 point lead heading into quarter number four.

In the fourth quarter the Raiders chipped away at the lead until junior guard Ben Stokes (10 points) scored what proved to be the winning points with under a minute to go to put the Raiders up 44-42.

Faith Christian was led by senior Levi Watts with 12 points. Sophomores Cooper Alvorado and Elijah Ortiz chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.

Leading the way for the Raiders were senior Chase Way and junior Rhett Mizzell with 13 points each. Junior Colby Weeks led the defense with four steals.

Faith Christian will host Cathedral Academy tonight while Dorchester Academy will head to Andrew Jackson Academy.
