Goose Creek - The South Carolina Independent Schools head into their football semi-final round with two schools defending their long winning streaks. Hammond in Class 3A hopes to extend their 23-game streak and Andrew Jackson Academy in 8-man hopes to extend their 47-game streak.

Last week in the Class 3-A quarterfinals the Skyhawks extended their win streak with a convincing 37-0 win over the Wilson Hall Barons.

Jordan Burch led the attack with a season high 107 yards rushing for two touchdowns. He also had a 19-yard pass reception for a touchdown. Quarterback Jackson Muschamp completed 8 of 13 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

The Skyhawks will carry an 11-0 record into the semifinal round to face the 7-3 Cardinal Newman Cardinals.  They defeated the Cardinals 63-27 in regular season.

First Baptist School will carry a 10-1 record into their semi-final battle against 9-2 Porter-Gaud. The Hurricanes defeated Porter-Gaud 38-16 in regular season. The Hurricanes hope for a rematch in the title game against Hammond. Hammond won that game 28-21.

Quarterback Myron Wigfall (jr) has completed 103 of 187 passes for 1,582 yards for 16 touchdowns. The Hurricanes ground attack has been led by Michel Dukes (sr) who has rushed 138 times for 1,638 yards and 27 touchdowns.

The Class 2A race this year is wide open as First Baptist who won the past two titles moved up. The 11-1 Titans of Trinity-Byrnes are hoping to be the new rulers.

Last week the Titans advanced to the semifinal round with a 34-7 win over Orangeburg Prep. In that win, Nick Jones rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Reggion Bennett (fr) added 100 yards and a touchdown. 

The Florence Christian Eagles will bring a 7-2 record into the semifinal round against Trinity-Byrnes after their quarterfinal 49-19 win over Hilton Head Christian.

The Eagles have used a strong rushing game in 2018 led by Eli Brayboy (sr) who has rushed for 951 yards and 14 touchdowns. Marshall Brown (so) follows with 653 yards and four touchdowns. 

The 6-4 Golden Warriors of John Paul ll are perhaps the darkhorse of the Class 2A playoffs. They upset the strong Greenwood Christian Hawks 28-14 in the quarterfinal round. 

The Golden Warriors have used a strong running and passing game in 2018.  Sam Summa (so) has completed 62 of 136 passes for 1,000 yards for five touchdowns. Zach Doe has led a trio of rushers with 1,137 yards for 14 touchdowns. 

The Robert E. Lee Cavaliers will bring an 8-3 record into battle with the Golden Warriors. The Cavaliers will be led by quarterback Jett Smith (jr). Other offensive stars for the Cavaliers will be Jacob Baker, Hunter McGee (sr), Keaton Price (so) and Matt Johnson (jr).

The Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels will bring an undefeated record of 11-0 into the semifinal matchup against the 7-3 Carolina Academy Bobcats in Class A.

The Rebels has used a brutal ground attack in 2018 as five of their rushers have over 400 yards rushing each. JR Patterson (so) leads the way with 978 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Bobcats are led by their seniors Shay Hall, Tyson Brand, Derrick Smith, Hilario Rivera and Tyrese McCray.

The Golden Eagles of Pee Dee Academy will bring an 8-1 record into the other Class A semifinal as they take on the 8-2 team from Bethesda Academy.

Quarterback Jake Lane (sr) helped PDA defeat Spartanburg Christian 48-20. Lane passed for 280 yards and five touchdowns. For the season he has completed 114 of 171 passes for 2,031 yards for 24 touchdowns.

Bethesda Academy comes into the semi-final round after a 22-11 win over last years champions from Dillon Christian.

Quarterback Antjuan McKay (so) has completed 44 of 88 passes for 951 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He has also rushed the ball 37 times for 305 yards and two scores.

The 8-man playoffs almost had a major shakeup last week as Andrew Jackson Academy had a scare from the Wardlaw Academy Patriots.

In the second half the Patriots came from a 0-20 hole to force the game into overtime where an interception by Andrew Jackson’s Bub Brunson preserved the 26-20 win for the Confederates.

Andrew Jackson will face the 9-1 Clarendon Hall Academy Saints in the semifinal round.  The Saints will be led by Tyrese Mitchum (jr), Wells Robinson (jr) and Bobby Ashba (sr).

The Jefferson Davis Raiders will bring an 11-1 record into the semifinal contest with the Beaufort Academy Eagles. Last week the Raiders defeated Palmetto Christian 62-46.

The 2018 Raider attack has been a massive running surge led by Jimmy Bozard (sr) who has rushed the ball 274 times for 2,497 yards for 33 touchdowns. 

The Beaufort Academy Eagles will bring an 8-2 record into the semi-final game. The Eagles hope to extend their best season in school history. The Eagles will be led by De’Shaun Epps and Dawson Coleman.
