St. George, S.C. -  The Dorchester Academy Lady Raiders opened defense of their SCISA Class 1-A  Softball Championship Monday with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Lady Patriots of Wardlaw Aademy.   This series is a rematch of last years Championship series that went three games.

The Lady Patriots came into the game riding a four- game win streak from Saturday’s tournament play in Sumter.   The Lady Patriots made the finals with two extra inning wins over Holly Hill Academy who had put them in the losers bracket in game one on Friday.

They jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2 ½ innings on runs by Taylor Rodgers (so), Elisabeth Ruth (jr) and Catherine Quarles (jr).

The Lady Raiders started their comeback in the bottom of inning three with two runs of their own by Savanna Sheldon and Lydia Hofstetter.

Sheldon again led the fifth inning rally with another run scored.   Savanna Varn would follow with the game winning run.

Hannah Reeves was the winning pitcher for Dorchester  going seven innings with two strikeouts.  Savannah Rodgers went the distance for Wardlaw with 11 strikeouts.

The series now moves to Wardlaw Academy in Johnston for game two on Tuesday if the weather allows play.
