The HSSR Will Resume Annual Prep Football Day At The USC Indoor Practice Facility On Saturday, July, 31 Between Noon & 2 P.M.

From Staff Reports

Columbia---The High School Sports Report will once again conduct the publication’s 36th annual football media day, inside the University of South Carolina Football Indoor Practice Facility on Saturday July, 31 between noon and 2 p. m.

“First and foremost, the High School Sports Report thanks USC head football Coach Shane Beamer, and USC Director of Football Operations George Wynn, for their cooperation in helping make this event happen,” said HSSR Publisher Billy G. Baker. “We were not able to conduct a football media day for the 2021 season, due to Covid-19 issues, and prior to last year, we had conducted over 30 straight football media days at USC, gong back to the late 1980’s.”

Mr. Wynn told the HSSR, “Per concerns with the variants, we are asking everyone to practice social distancing and to wear a mask unless in a photo shoot,” he said.

The HSSR is the only prep news media in South Carolina that produces a 100-plus page in-depth annual football issue covering literally every varsity SCHSL & SCISA football team in the state. The only reason a school would not be mentioned in this issue is that the head football coach failed to return a team information form e-mailed to every football varsity team in South Carolina. The HSSR also interviews any head varsity football coach who attends the annual media day at USC on July, 31.

In addition, the staff of the HSSR has a booth at the annual SCACA Coaches Clinic to be held in Greenville July, 25-28 where the publication works hard getting head coaches to fill out team information forms.

Other members of the media are invited to attend the HSSR Football Media Day event on July, 31st and all varsity football players are invited to attend free of charge. Players attending should be in good standing with their respective teams. They should also let their head coach know they are attending this event, and they only need to come wearing their Friday night game jersey. Please, also do not forget to bring a face mask/face covering to the event.

In late August the HSSR will print what is generally known as the largest publication in the nation focused on any one state for the upcoming football season. This football issue will also be uploaded onto the publication’s companion web site at hssr.com for free down loading.

Any senior varsity football player in SC can attend the event. All players in attendance fill out a prospect information sheet, have their individual picture taken, and they also have a group picture made with their teammates. The HSSR will interview any 2022, or any 2023 players, on the HSSR official Prospect lists on display at the event and at hssr.com. Should your name not be on the list, and you have a bona fide major college offer from any of the 130 Division I football programs in the nation, we will also interview you, but you must let us know who your offers are in advance of attending media day via hsreport@aol.com.

The HSSR will also write feature stories on position groups a.k.a quarterbacks, linebackers, offensive linemen, etc.  and the HSSR will shoot one picture of each position group that will 100 per cent be used in the annual football issue that is mailed to all 130 major college football programs in the nation, and numerous smaller colleges, within the state and region. After the position group pictures are taken most attendees are free to leave.

The final group pictures of the event includes group pictures of the HSSR Top 100 2022 Offensive Players at the event and the HSSR Top 100 2022 Defensive Players at the event. These two group pictures are used on the cover of the annual HSSR football issue, so it is very important for players in the HSSR Top 100 to attend the media day. 0

The final photo of the day is any top under classmen, from rising freshman to rising senior, on the HSSR list that will be available on the door entering the practice facility or at hssr.com with updated information up until media day. While the HSSR has a good feel for top rising junior prospects, high school coaches are urged to e-mail any verified information on top rising freshman or sophomore prospects to hsreport@aol.com right away.

Please continue checking hssr.com for daily updates about the upcoming football media day. You do not have to be on any HSSR prospect list to attend this event. The HSSR is sincerely interested in promoting the sport of high school football to all communities across South Carolina.
